what is the ‘idiot proof diet’?
Author: admin Category: Idiot Proof Dietingit says all this stuff about being able to lose 9pnds in 11 days by changing what you eat every couple days or something… anyone tried it and does it work?
***please no annoying lectures about how it probably isn’t healthy*** I’m not in the mood!!
thanks
Just remember the phrase, "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is." I haven’t personally tried it, but you have to remember that you didn’t put on those pounds in nine days so you surely won’t lose them that quickly!
I need a diet and workout plan. Can you help?
Author: admin Category: Idiot Proof Weight LossI currently weigh approx. 200 lbs (give or take for water weight, it does fluctuate every day), and I’m 5′5". My problem is I’m very impatient. If I don’t start seeing results almost immediately, I’ll lose focus. I’ve heard the bigger you are, the faster it’ll come off. Is that true???
I recently saw a specialist about this and they did a body mass test, and it said the bulk of my weight is in my torso. I need to know what’s the best way to work off belly fat because if I can hit that I will eliminate a BIG portion of my problem. I’m unfortunately not a big gym-goer. I just don’t enjoy working out. I have, however, started going to spin classes 2-3 times a week and I really enjoy them. But apart from that, I’m really clueless, I definitely need workout tips because I’m not sure what exercises I should be doing or how often.
My eating habits need a major reality check as well. I’m weening myself off soda (this week especially– I gave it up for Lent. Praying I can stick to it!) but apart from that I really have little knowledge as to what kinds of healthy food choices I should make. Please give me whatever tips you can! Idiot proof this for me because I have NO IDEA what I’m supposed to do! A sidenote to anyone who might answer in regards to food choices: I hate ALL seafood, which sucks because I know how healthy some of it can be, but I just really detest it. So please give me other options!
I need to lose at least 50 lbs to be within a healthy BMI range. I’d love to lose more but, one step at a time. This is the first goal. And like I said, the faster I can get there, the better. I just know myself and unfortunately I will lose focus if I’m not seeing results. I know they say a healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week, but again, because I’m bigger I feel the weight should come off faster. I’d love it if I could be halfway there in a couple months! Is that possible?
Thanks everyone for ALL your input. Please be specific!!! Every little bit helps! I so appreciate it
You need to make a permamnet and committed life style change. "Diets" are temporary. Sorry but you’ll have to "earn" the results and it’s not going to happen over night. I bought a tread mill and started using it every other day (Nordictrac 2550). You need to be on it for at least 30 minutes. I start out with a fast walk (3.3 mph) for 10 minutes and then go to 4.4 mph jog for approx 6 minutes then to 4.6 mph for another 6-10 minutes then and then top out at 4.7 mph and finish with a 2 minute cool down of 3.3 mph. This takes 38 minutes and I do it every other day. I watch what I eat (NO SODA!!). I have lost 25lbs and now I sleep great and feel so much better. Yes you could lose 2 lbs /week. Eat more fruits and vegetables. I have added garlic (in salads), olive oil and ovacodos to my diet on a regular basis.
basis. Work out a plan that fits you best.

Overweight and clueless… can you help?

My eating habits need a major reality check as well. I’m slowly weening myself off soda (this week especially– I gave it up for Lent. Praying I can stick to it!) but apart from that I’m pretty much clueless as to what kinds of healthy food choices I should make. To be honest, left to my own devices the only way I can see myself feasibly losing weight would be to stop eating entirely. Obviously I realize that’s not healthy but I’m so clueless about food, I never know what to choose, so abstaining entirely is sometimes better than eating crap! A sidenote to anyone who might answer in regards to food choices: I hate ALL seafood, which sucks because I know how healthy some of it can be, but I just really detest it. 50 pounds would make a huge difference but I really need my plan to be idiot-proofed because I truly do not know what I’m doing. And like I said, the faster the better. I know they say a healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week, but again, because I’m bigger I feel the weight should come off faster. I’d love it if I could be halfway there in a couple months! Fast and weight loss should never be used in the same sentence.
Your "specialist" did you no favors by pointing out where your fat is, because that’s not relevant to the weight loss process. Fat is stored fuel. When you take in less fuel than you need, it gets used up more or less evenly from wherever it happens to be. You don’t get to pick which fat gets used first. Your body is limited in how fast it can convert fat to energy. If you try to do it too fast, you start cannibalising other important things like muscles and organs in addition to fat. That’s where the 2 pounds a week limit comes into play.
Exercise helps the process by increasing your fuel requirements, but it has no direct effect on fat. You can do all the crunches and ab exercises you want, and you’ll get strong ab muscles, but it won’t do a thing to the overlaying (or internal…) belly fat.
Since fat is fuel, it requires oxygen to burn (release energy). Your cardiovascular system delivers the oxygen. So higher heart rate = more oxygen delivered = more fuel burned.
You’re looking for exercises that elevate your heart rate for long periods of time and make you breath hard. The best, in descending order of calories burned per hour are:
1. cross country ski
2. run
3. bike
4. swim (laps, not putzing around in the shallow end)
Spin classes are good, because they’re usually pretty intense. 2-3 times a week for an hour really isn’t going to make much of a dent, though. You really need something every day, preferrably something you like, and something you can work into your daily routine. Bike commuting works for me. Maybe you could swim laps before work then go to the spin classes in the evening. You said you wanted to speed up results, there’s nothing in the rules that says you can’t do two-a-days.
I dropped 40lbs by taking up the sport of triathlon. It took a year or so to do it, but I didn’t have to count calories or really think about what I ate. I probably could’ve done it in a few months if I’d paid any attention to food intake, but the goal was getting in shape and competing, so I wasn’t thinking much about the weight end of it.
IMHO, weight loss as a goal in and of itself isn’t very motivating. You’d be better served by looking for a sport, activity or healthy lifestyle you like, and using that as the goal.
